Kalonji is a flowering plant native to Southern Europe, Southwest Asia and North Africa. Scientifically, it is referred to as “Nigella Sativa”. These seeds have been used as a herbal remedy for the treatment of various diseases and conditions ranging from diabetes to arthritis.

Kalonji seeds and oil contain active compounds called “phytochemicals” which have a wide range of therapeutic kalonji benefits. Nowadays, it has gained popularity due to its lot of health benefits.

How to use kalonji for weight loss?

It helps in weight loss as it contains high amounts of fiber. It reduces the appetite by regulating certain chemicals in the brain, thus leading to weight loss.

Is kalonji oil good for joint pain?

According to Ayurveda, the bones and joints are considered to be the Vata in the body and pain in joints usually happen due to imbalancing of vata. Kalonji oil helps reducing joint pain with the help of its Vata balancing property

What is the recommended dosage of Kalonji?

It is recommended not to consume more than 4-5 kalonji seeds in a day

Is kalonji a source of hydroxychloroquine?

According to a study, the antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties of kalonji seeds can provide therapeutic relief from ailments such as cancer, diabetes, heart diseases, obesity, bacterial infections, and skin disorders.

But nowhere in these studies, it was found that kalonji is the source of hydroxychloroquine. Neither of these studies could confirm that it can also prevent coronavirus.

Kalonji is frequently used in different cuisines. In India, they are used to make curries, lentils based dishes. They are also used to make vegetable stir-fries. Simply, roast a teaspoon of black seeds in oil or butter and put them in your dish. Also, these Black seeds add aroma, taste and texture to your dish.

How to store kalonji?

It is recommended to store black seeds in an opaque or glass airtight container away from direct light or heat. Make sure the area is cool and dry. Being a strong aromatic spice, ensure that the lid is tightly closed to retain the freshness of the spice. If stored well, nigella seeds will keep the flavour well for a year or even more.
